Dashed Droplets

Notice: Droplet registration is offline. However, you can still request a Droplet at https://hub.sokka.io.

Okay... there have been a few changes... Want to get started? It's easy!

Start by popping over to hub@Sokka and making an account (yes it requires javascript...). Then reply to the Requests for hosting post, stating your interest (there's a default template you can use and all). I will reply with your droplet information ASAP and your TOTP (2FA) QR Code, and the rest will all be explained there. Enjoy!

Some cool features:

Hi there. I’m Dasho. This is my humble attempt at a hosting service. A lot of people love to keep asking me questions, so I thought I’d just say everything upfront and save you (and me) the time. You can always reach out to me at o_o@dasho.dev.

Rules

The rules are very plain and simple.

Make sure to understand and follow the Terms of Use.

Nothing Illegal
(If you have to ask, it’s not allowed)
Nothing Gross
(Same rule applies)
No Child Sex Abuse Material No Gore
No Guns No Animal Stuff
No Drugs No Pics of Poop

Love/Porn Specific Rules

Legal adult-only porn content is allowed on sites that aren't specifically made for this content (e.g. social sites, image boards, etc.).

Furry chats/forums are allowed, just keep it decent and non-toxic.

No sexual content involving children (anyone under 18) is allowed.

>> If it breaks the rules above ... it's not allowed <<

Notice: I do my best to make everything as unlimited as possible, but blatant misuse or abuse of the servers resources (because they're all containers at the end of the day and share the same kernel) will result in your server being deleted. :)

Server Type

They act as standard VPS style servers, more accurately droplets (docker containers). They come with a file manager and a web-based SSH terminal, and work over tor, with clearnet support optional. All droplets of the same Generation share the same kernel, but run in their own secure container. They act the same way as a VPS, just are more efficient and easy to manage.

WordPress

Yes, they can run WordPress, you just have to wget the .zip file and extract, and set up. I will not help with this - sorry.

Pricing

When it says free above - it means free. There are no paid tiers, no hidden prices, no hassle. It’s just free. If you ask me in an email how much it costs - I will flat out ignore you okay. IT’S FREE!!!

But then how can you afford it?

It’s not an expensive server. I’m not using professional-grade technology here. It’s run off a home router, on a basic Ubuntu installation on a spare laptop I have at home. I’m 17 years old. I’m in high school and I live at home with my family. It’s very feasible to run.

But are the servers bad then?

I have had a 2.TB hard drive attached to the PC. The PC itself has 16GB of RAM and my broadband is pretty good. I have hardened will harden the PC itself so it will be fairly secure, and the servers are powered by containerization, so they run rather efficiently. To prevent multiple MySQL servers from running at once, you all share one server. You get your own DB and may request another at any time. There is no limit to the number of databases you can have (yet).

Privacy

I only investigate a server if I have a reason to. That is if it is uniquely reported to me. I do not collect any personal details on you at all - and you can ensure this by requesting a server through Sonar, by sending a message as a guest. If a server violates the rules - I simply delete it and that’s that. If you use it to store or share personal information and do not trust me (why would you…), you can always look at encryption options.

Frequent Problems

I live at home. I go to school. I am not always next to my computer. As a result, the server can often go offline - but it’s usually not too bad and never lasts more than 8 hours. Average uptime without downtime is about two weeks. These are inevitable though. My mom might plug it out by accident or my sister might take it and forget to plug it back in. Shit happens. You get what you paid for. I try my best.

Also.  READ THE FUCKEN DOCS  . I didn’t make a whole nice friendly “Hello World” page for no reason. It explains shit. Including how to get root access. Use sudo all you want buddy - it won’t do shit. You have to use su to change to the root user (using the default password when prompted), and then do what you want.

And finally, remember your server codename. I will not touch a single server for you if you can’t tell me your project codename. It just won’t happen - sorry to burst your bubble. You must remember it.

2FA

This is required for all G2 Droplets and above.

A newer feature…
If you own a server and you’re afraid that your server codename might become public or be guessed, you can set up 2-Factor-Authentication. To do this, just ask, and I will send you a barcode to scan into your 2FA app. There is no verification that it’ll work, trust me it will. If you lose your 2FA access, you can create a file called verify.txt on your server in the /root directory with a random 12 varchar string, and then send me that string to verify your ownership also. This is why it is important to keep your private URL … well, private. I will also highlight that you can use GPG key-based 2FA also. This might be useful if you want to verify ownership using 2FA without having to be chatting with me in real-time.

I AM NOT YOUR SLAVE!!!

Also - people seem to think I’m here to help then unconditionally. That’s not my job. These servers are bare root servers. I gave you a nice file-manager, and a simple SSH platform, and good documentation, but it is for people who know what they’re doing. Use the internet if you get stuck. I promise you that Google or Stackoverflow know a lot more about this shit than me.

I am such a nice person, that I will help you if you ask, but please use me as a last resort. Okay?
